Mediate when possible, litigate when necessary

Divorce Mediation Lawyer • Collaborative Family Law Attorney
Redlands, California

In the past ten years of providing collaborative divorce and mediation services at the Redlands, California, family law practice of Lenita A. Skoretz, Attorney at Law, I have seen many hundreds of couples through the process of divorce.

More and more often, educated and professional couples in Redlands, San Bernardino, Yucaipa, Fontana, and Loma Linda are choosing divorce mediation services or collaborative divorce, as the method to accomplish their marriage dissolution.

Divorcing couples in Redlands and Riverside counties are choosing collaborative divorce because:

  • They don’t want to pay two attorneys to fight about something in public court that the couple can settle privately for themselves.
  • They don’t want a judge who doesn’t know them or their family to make important decisions for them.
  • They have some points of agreement, and they know that with just a bit of help they can create a divorce settlement agreement that works for them.
  • They are both willing to give the collaborative divorce process a try.

The philosophy of my law firm is that the law can both solve problems and empower people to take back control of their lives. When you hire me as your mediator or collaborative divorce lawyer, I will provide you with Collaborative Law or divorce mediation services as well as the knowledge and the opportunity to meaningfully participate in the process of finding a legal resolution to your family law concern.

Collaborative Divorce or Divorce Mediation Services

If you choose a collaborative divorce, you, your spouse, and his/her attorney will work with me and a trained counselor. We begin by identifying the issues where you have agreement, then review the issues where you do not yet. The counselor assists couples in overcoming obstacles and impasses the result from the emotional issues in the marriage or around property or children.

As a divorce mediator, I act as a neutral facilitator to help you and your ex-spouse come to your own agreement about child custody and visitation, child support and spousal support, and property settlement. I use a reflective listening approach and offer advice and support when needed to help you reach resolution. As your mediator, I am not acting as a judge. My role is merely to help you maintain a respectful environment and help you explore your real issues so you can build an agreement that no judge could create for you—your own.

When to Use Collaborative Divorce or Divorce Mediation Services

  • When both parties have demonstrated that they can cooperate.
  • When both parties believe that the other party is able to be honest and cooperative.

When Not to Use Collaborative Divorce or Divorce Mediation Services

  • When one party has not agreed to participate.
  • If there has been abuse in the relationship.
  • When one party believes the other party has not been honest or will not be honest.

Why let a judge who does not know you make the most important decisions of your life? You may have the ability to reach your own divorce agreements—better divorce agreements. Contact me to discuss the empowering options of collaborative divorce or divorce mediation services.
